A prototype of Destruction Derby Raw for the PlayStation.

Notes

  • The music tracks "Overwhelm & Destroy" and "Do What You Want To Do" are early mixes, the latter track seems to match the version used for the Intro FMV in the final game (with the missing vocal sample early into the track).
  • The music tracks "Careening" and "Pounding Pavement" are missing.
  • The Psygnosis / Studio 33 copyright screen contains an extra line of text in a custom font at the bottom of the screen, reading "The Destruction Derby Raw Team Presents....".
  • The language select screen is completely different and implemented directly into the main menu UI as the initial screen before you reach the main menu itself, whereas the later prototypes and final game moved it to a unique dedicated menu screen.
  • The X and Triangle button "Select" / "Back" UI icons seen throughout the menus have their positions swapped around compared to the later prototypes and final builds, and are positioned differently horizontally.
  • "Music Volume" found in the Sound submenu in Options is named "CD Volume" here, and has a different "CD" graphic on the piston model instead of the music note seen in later builds.
  • The number 01 graphic on the player vehicle is colored a reddish orange on the vehicle select screen in this build. It appears as the usual yellow color in game however.
  • The menu course models and loading screen renders for Axehead Long, Axehead Short (loading screen only), Car Park and Sidewinder contain remnants of earlier revisions of the courses with different course layouts or large visual changes. Car Park has an entirely changed layout, both versions of Axehead have huge changes to around half of the course layout, and Sidewinder contains a half built freeway overpass overlaying the course (which was previously revealed in the PAL Press Kit CD for this title). The in game layouts for these courses are all finalized at this point of development.
  • The vehicle strength stat bar in Smash 4 $'s garage menu is positioned on the left side of the screen underneath the other vehicle stats, from the May 6th 2000 build onwards it was moved to underneath the player cash total.
  • Trying to begin a race with a damaged vehicle in Smash 4 $ mode plays an additional car horn esque SFX alongside the usual sound, this was removed in the May 6th 2000 build onwards.
  • Both sound effects that play when you score points during a race are missing.
  • Sidewinder's start / finish line is located on the middle straight instead of one of the 180 degree corners at the edge of the course layout, the race start location differs to final as a result. Some of the pillars are also in different spots or using different models.
  • The crowd grandstand located at the end of the downhill slope on both versions of Avalanche features what appear to be additional flag graphics protrouding from the top of the bleachers, these were later removed from the May 6th 2000 prototype onwards.
  • Up N Over Long's start / finish line is in a completely different spot and lacks a physical finish line graphic on the course surface, the race start location also differs to final as a result. Some of the course's trackside elements have noticeable changes too, such as differently placed / missing objects and a larger abundance of wooden fencing.
  • The jump towards the end of the main straight on both versions of Jagged Edge is far less steep than it is in the final game. There's also some rough mismatched texturing on the right side of the beginning of the main straight on both versions of the course after the road transitions from sand to tarmac.
  • Both versions of Loops Of Fury contain a few changes to their trackside textures in this build. Many of the barrier chevron arrows in the second half of the course are instead additional advertisement banners, and the suspended chevron arrows are colored red and white instead of yellow and black.
  • Slammer lacks the start / finish line course texture.
  • The post race UI's X button option is named "Frontend" instead of "Main Menu".
  • Docklands and The Wreckoning are mistakenly using each other's menu course model.
  • You can fall a lot further off the sides of a Skyscraper event in this build before the trigger ends the match, sometimes allowing you to impact the floor below.
  • The Name Entry menu screen is visually different from later builds, with the text UI scaled down inside of the menu background metal sheet area.
