A prototype of LittleBigPlanet Karting for the Sony PlayStation 3.
Notes
The Cutting Room Floor research
While the disc's label lists a date of August 30th 2011, its primary volume descriptor — as well as various file modification dates — suggest the data is actually from August 15th. In either case, this build predates the final game's release by over a year.
- XMB Metadata is different with an early logo and background. The title is also slightly different, with an additional colon between "LittleBigPlanet" and "Karting" (LittleBigPlanet: Karting).
- If a photo is taken in-game and exported to the XMB, it will be saved to an album named "Little Big Planet™ Racers".
- There are numerous leftovers from United Front Games' previous title: ModNation Racers.
- The company logo videos are visually identically, though the San Diego Studio logo has different audio mixing.
- The game has a TROPHY.TRP file. Other than the ICON0.PNG, the trophies are completely unchanged from ModNation Racers.
- Several menus and UI elements borrow the layout, if not the graphics from their ModNation counterparts. Examples include:
- The Race Setup menu uses a similar layout as in ModNation, but with an LBP-themed coat of paint.
- The Tutorials menu is unchanged from ModNation.
- Drifting in this version builds up a boost meter, which can be used to boost at any time. In the final game, this was replaced with a more standard drift boost system.
- Different weapon lineup, with a set of four upgradable weapons as opposed to the custom weapon system found in the final game.
- The music is completely different, comprised of licensed songs which did not carry over to the final game.
Miscellaneous Notes
- Game is emulatable: Yes (as of January 11, 2024)
