A prototype of XGRA: Extreme G Racing Association for the PlayStation 2.

Notes

  • A PAL build dated nearly 11 months before the final game.
  • According to the disc, the game doesn't even have its final name yet - being labelled only as "XG-4".
  • There are no opening cutscenes.
  • The title screen is completely different, still with no trace of the final game's name or logo.
  • Waiting for the demo to play out on the main menu seems to crash the game.
  • The entire game is completely silent, with apparently no music or sound effects. Despite this, after the main menu the player is greeted with a choice of which genre of music they'd like to listen to - either Dance or Rock - missing the "Mix" option seen later in development.
  • Being a front end test, the game appears to entirely consist of menus at this point. There seems to be no trace of actual gameplay.
  • All of the menus are styled totally differently, being much more reflective of XGIII's visual style than of XGRA's final menus. There's almost no similarity between the menus in this version and the ones seen later in development.
  • The menus also seem to be the wrong size and resolution when compared with the background.
  • When attempting to start a race, you're instead greeted with another sequence of menus - black screens containing the words "Race", "HUD", "PAUSE" and "Race Results" and nothing else, evidently standing as placeholders in place of actual gameplay. You can navigate through these menus with the X button.
  • The cheat menu cannot be accessed despite its option being present in the menus.
  • Only the English language is present, and selecting any other language will replace all text with variants of "Text n Not Found". The list of languages does not match the one used in the final PAL build.
  • For some reason, the game suggests pressing the circle button to go backwards through menus, despite only the triangle button working.
  • Miscellaneous Notes:
    • Game is emulatable (in PCSX2): Yes (as of March 17, 2021).
    • Game contains dongle protection: No.
